Signing an SC Marriage License

South Carolina has strict requirements for the proper completion of marriage licenses deemed acceptable to be submitted to the probate court.   

1) Grooms are expected to sign their First, Middle, and Last names “insidebox #20 (Just as it appears in Section “A”, on all there copies).

2) Brides are required to sign their First, Middle, and Last names “inside” box #21 (Just as it appears in Section “B”, on all there copies).

Brides Note: Upon the completion of these licenses, the Bride should be given the “Bride/Groom” copy of the licenses -and the officiant submits the others to the clerk of court.  The Bride has all that she needs to prove her marital status with her copy.  She may then take it 1st) to the Social Security office; 2) then to the DMV to change her name.  Her names remains as it was printed in Section B if/or until she takes actions 1. and 2. mentioned above.
